The standard reaction arms HYTORC
The standard HYTORC reaction arms delivered with the tools are dimensioned according to the commonly found spacing between the bolts of the sizes for which the wrench is designed for example to be able to rest on a bolt right next to it in the simplest and most obvious way for the operator.
The height of the reaction arm must also be compatible with the standard sockets that are intended to be used with the clamping tool if applicable (for square drive wrenches and screwdrivers). Depending on the capacity of the bolting tool and the distance of the fulcrum that can be used, the reaction appendage is designed to accommodate and withstand the considerable force involved in applying torque.
Whether it is the heels of the hydraulic eye wrenches or the reaction arms of all other HYTORC tools, these three criteria of distance, height and strength are taken into account for the standard TOCs in order to cover the majority of the existing needs.
HYTORC sliding reaction arms
To avoid the risk of pinching linked to the reaction arm and to increase the useful length of the reaction arms, HYTORC has developed two secure sliding reaction arm systems allowing to lean on a second nut or screw head at a variable distance from the bolt to be tightened.
The idea is to adapt to the center distance of the bolts and to lean around this second bolt (or even in the head of this second BTR screw if necessary) and not against it.
By enclosing the reaction point in a second sleeve or reaction cup, there is no risk of pinching the operator and no risk of the tool getting caught.
- TPF (track pad fixture) reaction arms have reaction splines for attachment in place of a coaxial reaction arm, and feature a sliding square conductor of the same size as the tool with which they are used, which is free to rotate. Therefore, it is sufficient to mount a second bushing of the same size as the one that is going to make the tightening on this square conductor and it will come to cap the reaction bolt (or to be lodged in the head of the CHC screw in the case of male bushings).
- WTCT (Wind Track Cup Tray) type reaction arms also have coaxial reaction splines to replace a reaction arm. Only the other end is a simple square section on which a reaction cup slides. The reaction cup is a kind of tube that will enclose the nut or screw head that will be used for the reaction. The cup can also have a circular male section that will fit into a BTR screw head if required.
The specific reaction arms HYTORC
With more than fifty years of experience, HYTORC has studied and manufactured a multitude of specific reaction arms for all its tools according to the requests of customers or particular cases with need for a special design. Many of these items meet more needs than the one for which they were designed, so they are often found and are even included in the catalog with several units in stock.
For the same HYTORC hydraulic wrench or screwdriver there are therefore several lengths of reaction arm possible, or high versions for use with long bushes, or very short versions of reaction arm for tower cranes for example.
And even for the hydraulic eye wrenches, there are ALCO long reaction arms or side stubs to cover as many situations as possible. In addition to being a classic reaction arm, there are arms that allow simultaneous clamping of two tools so as to use the other tool as a reaction point without any other support point.
