Torque calculator : SIMULTORC method

For your sealing flange tightening operations, the use of several controlled tightening tools is recommended in order to better distribute the efforts on the joint to avoid damaging it. *

To meet this widespread need among its customers, HYTORC created SIMULTORC by deciding in the 90s to systematically equip its hydraulic pumps with 4 outlets allowing to tighten with up to 4 wrenches simultaneously.

The integrity of the joints is essential to ensure tightness, which is a major issue in many industries, and this strong choice to encourage the simultaneous tightening of screwed assemblies is a strong signal for customer satisfaction and the quality of the operations carried out.

Tightening principles with the SIMULTORC torque calculator

Standards and Tightening Procedure

With the SIMULTORC method and the use of 4 hydraulic wrenches simultaneously, the operator saves an average of 70% of the time in compliance with the standards compared to the same operation with a single clamping tool.

Even with two wrenches, the operation time is reduced and when you know the cost of each hour of production lost in refineries or power plants due to maintenance, simultaneous tightening is a real lever for improving maintenance operations.

To guarantee the tightness of the flange of a pipe or a pressure vessel, the standards prescribe assembly and tightening procedures.

Regarding tightening, the ASME PCC-1 standard formalized in 2010 the multi-tool tightening procedures that complement the various already existing procedures for the use of a single tool. The multi-tool tightening procedure is streamlined, whereas with single-tool use, multiple passes must be made on each nut, gradually increasing the tightening force and following a star pattern to avoid pinching the joint.

The HYTORC ATLANTIC Torque Calculator allows you to select the most suitable tool and gives the procedure for 1, 2 or 4 tools used simultaneously for your flange. He will calculate the torque according to the characteristics of your flange.

Ease of Implementation

The only difference in the HYTORC hydraulic pump is that the hydraulic distributor has 4 double-acting outputs instead of one.

Thus all the High Pressure outputs are linked to have torque control by providing the same pressure level and the same goes for the Low Pressure outputs which are linked together.

The operator controls the hydraulic pump in the same way whether there is a single wrench connected or 4 hydraulic torque wrenches.

With SIMULTORC, the feed control sends oil at the set pressure level to all 4 wrenches at the same time which distributes the clamping force at 4 points around the flange to press evenly on the joint without risk of pinching it.

As they are connected to each other, none of the 4 outlets can receive a higher pressure than the others, avoiding an imbalance of torque applied between the hydraulic keys.
